Background

As today we need manually check if the website is down. This is not optimal and the customer would like to have an service that does this for us

What do we want

check for different services.
List which one are free and what kind of monitoring includes into it

List which one are paid and how much it costs and what kind of monitoring includes into it.

This issue will not be implemented this year 2026 and can be active for next year

Research

All the services that i could find had a Free plan aswell as different options for paid plans, i chose 4 of the most promising for our needs. Keep in mind that there is a lot of more features to these tools but i only mention what is relevant for our needs.

Monitoring services (Free subscription)

Better stack

  • Sends alerts (Slack/Email)
  • Check interval - 3 min

UpTimeRobot

  • Has uptime monitoring
  • Sends alerts (Slack/Email)
  • Check interval - 5 min

  • Has uptime monitoring
  • Sends alerts (Slack/Email/Discord)
  • Check interval - 5 min

Grafana cloud

  • Has uptime monitoring
  • Sends alerts (Slack/Email/Discord)

  • Dashboard capabilities
  • Recommended for applications that run Docker
  • Recommended for applications that host API's
  • has CPU/RAM/network graphs of server
  • ability to see active users metrics

Worth to mention, grafana might be somewhat overkill since it is not only a webpage monitoring tool but has more features such as monitoring for server, with DevOps and CI/CD functionalities.
It is also distinct from all the other options because it is totally open source and very cheap in the paid subscription.

Thanks! yep kinda assumed it was something along those lines, But since this is something that will probably be implemented by the students taking over after us, i want to be as detailed as possible since this could be very important later on.
